SENATORS ON THEIR WAY: At 1:58 pm, Speaker Finneran, presiding at the House session, said he has been informed that the Senate is en route and advised House members to prepare for their arrival. At 1:58 pm, senators arrived and were admitted through the chamber’s center doors. House members applauded their arrival.

Speaker Finneran and Senate President Travaglini, accompanied by his top aides, briefly conferred on the rostrum. Senate Clerk William Welch, the parliamentarian during the Constitutional Convention, set up to the right of the rostrum. Rep. Travis stood, at his desk, awaiting any activity from the rostrum.

CONVENES: The Constitutional Convention convened at 2:03 pm, Senate President Robert Travaglini presiding. Members and guests rose and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

ROSTRUM CONFERENCE: At noon, members of the Senate arrived for the Constitutional Convention, introduced by chief Senate court officer Paul Dooley. A rostrum discussion ensued involving Senate President Travaglini, House Speaker Finneran, House Majority Leader DiMasi, House Minority Leader Jones, and Senate Ways and Means Committee Chairwoman Murray.

RESUMES: The Constitutional Convention resumed at 12:06 am, Senate President Travaglini presiding. He asked members to take their seats and for court officers to clear the well. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE, WITH EMPHASIS: The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, with those seats in the gallery loudly emphasizing the final words “and justice for all.”

CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION: MONDAY, MARCH 29, 2004

CONVENES: The constitutional convention was called back into session today at 10:01 am by House Speaker Thomas Finneran (D-Mattapan)

Senate President Travaglini said the joint session comes to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and Rev Robert Quinn said a prayer.

MARRIAGE AMENDMENT: Question came on adopting an amendment offered by Sens. Berry and Baddour to H 3190 amendment on marriage, as amended.
